In December 2008, Dr. Alfred Ulrich and his co-workers founded the Kölner Labor für Baumaschinen (KLB) at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences (CUAS). The KLB is an integral part of the Institute of Agricultural Engineering and Renewable Energies (LTRE).
The increase in research activities and cooperation with industry partners has led to the consolidation of these activities under the name Kölner Labor für Baumaschinen (KLB).
The founding is a further step towards the planned Expertise Center for Mobile Work Machines at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences in the LTRE institute, one of whose goals it is to become a competent research partner in the areas of construction, utility, logging, and agricultural machinery. Research activities are directly incorporated into the curriculum, through which the innovative powers of the CUAS and industry will be strengthened. A further goal is the creation of a highly qualified and well educated workforce in the industry of mobile work machines for the future.
Through the conceptual design, modeling and development processes for their R&D cooperative projects, KLB is able to offer services throughout the entire design process – from idea development to product release.
